Unfortunately it does not default to last used setting on an engine cold start, but defaults to 'on' on current cars, just like the engine start/stop system.
This is for the vehicle security system. Also for when the hood is lifted during service the the auto-stop-start feature is disabled. With some vehicles, simply disconnecting the connector to the switch will disable the auto-start-stop feature, but there will be a security warning in most vehicles.

Disconnect voltage sensor . You can permanently disable the auto start/stop system on VW Tiguan or any other Volkswagen vehicle by removing the battery voltage sensor connector from the negative terminal of the battery. Mar 30, 2023 #4.
Hello all! Great forum! Soon to be a new 2018 Golf R owner. I noticed that the new 2018 Golf has the engine start/ stop feature, shutting down the engine when coming to a full stop. I am in Canada, and not sure if the US cGolfs will have this feature. I am not a fan of this feature, and would L0bQufP.
