Unreal - Half-Life - Sin was the 1998 killer FPS lineup (kinda like Doom 3 - Far Cry - Half-Life 2 in 2004). Tbh, I think part of the success of Half-Life was its modest requirements, it could run extremely well even in software mode on so-so PCs. Unreal was more demanding in software.

I assume you're talking about Half-Life 2: Episode 2 since it was just ran by Gocnak. Most important strat is ABH which might take a while to master but it's very rewarding and fun once you actually can move really fast. Episode 2 could be a nice first game to run since it's not that long (WR being 43:35).
