Obviously 40 grams of processed sugar and 200mg of caffeine isn't good for you. 200mg caffeince is roughly the maximum you want per day, but you are much better getting it from teas and coffees (antioxidants). But if you are going to compare sugar energy drinks to 0g sugar energy drinks, then yes, sugar free is just fine. If you like pear you might like Bang Purple Guava Pear or Red Bull Sugar Free Pear Edition (although I think the latter has been discontinued so it might be harder to find). As far as Apple goes, Bang Candy Apple Crisp, Reign Sour Apple, and Rockstar XDurance Super Sour Apple are all good in my opinion, although I Red Bull energy drinks contain ingredients known for boosting energy, including caffeine (synthetic), taurine, B vitamins and sugar from sugar beets. The brand offers the Red Bull original flavour, also available in a sugar-free version, as well as limited-edition flavours like watermelon and tropical. The "healthy" energy drinks tend to taste less sweet. Brands like Runa, Hiball, Yerbae. Usually they are in a different aisle (than the one for Monster, Rockstar) at grocery stores. They tend to be with the flavored sparkling waters. They also have less caffeine and tend to be more pricey. Maybe I’ll love one of them.

Probably way too late but the cans should have a printed date at the bottom with a letter (month), year (2 numbers), the day of the month (2 numbers), and the day (2 numbers). Apparently, the regular energy drinks are 2 years after the made date and coffees and whatnot are like 7-9 months after the listed date. 1. r/energydrinks.
